Admire one of the most beautiful Renaissance Marble Arch during the Angevine Castle guided tour in Naples. The Angevine Castle, known as the New Castle, was built, at the end of the thirteenth century, when the town of Naples was the capital of the Kingdom of Naples ruled by Charles I, the french Angevine king. Made with the Vesuvian lava stone, the castle was embellished, during the Renaissance, with a marvellous marble arch which is depicting the magnificence of the Spanish king, Alfonso I of the Aragon crown, who became the king of Naples in 1443. Inside the castle there is a beautiful chapel dedicated to Saint Barbara, the impressive star shaped Baron's Hall and the Civic Museum which we will visit. We will also see, through the glass floor, the remains of a roman building which is underneeth one of the halls of the castle. © 2014-2024 Dr Maria Sannino
