Saint Elmo Castle dominates the bay of Naples from the top of the hill of Vomero. Built by Robert of the Anjou family, during the 14th century, it has a six-pointed star shape and from its terraces it is possible to enjoy one of the most beautiful views of Naples and its gulf. The Vesuvius and the plain around it, the Sorrento peninsula, the three islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida, the underneath town centre of Naples, all visible from the castle, make the scenery an unforgettable one. The visit to the castle can be combined with a visit to the nearby Certosa di San Martino, or to the Duca di Martina Museum hosted inside the Floridiana Villa, or with a shopping-tour, due to its proximity to the shopping area of the Vomero quarter. |
