Naples, one the most amazing cities in the world, has got a church every fifty meters, all of them decorated by unimaginable artworks.
In the ancient town of Neapolis there is the maximum concentration of religious places which include renowned monasteries and cloisters.
The Cathedral of Naples is worth a visit: it contains masterpieces of art like the Chapel dedicated to Saint Gennaro, famous all over the world for the Miracle of His blood, the Santa Restituta, chapel embellished by remains of different times, and the beautiful Capece-Minutolo chapel, rich in mosaics of the medieval age.
Saint Lorenzo Church, a splendid example of the gothic style in Naples, is another of those impressive churches placed right in the centre of ancient Neapolis, where the agora and forum square were in the past. Right in front of it, the Saint Paolo Maggiore church, famous for its paintings, is dominating the square with its fantastic facade, the staircase and the columns dating back to the roman time.
Moving towards the San Domenico square, there are other churches which are worth a visit: Saint Angelo a Nilo, although a very small church, contains a relief made by the great Donatello, while the San Domenico church, the centre of philisophy and culture, in the past, has been embellished with beautiful reliefs, paintings made by the most famous artists and a stone crib.
Not far away, the Gesù Nuovo square is flanked by other eloquent models of art in Naples: the Santa Chiara church, that is very well known for its cloister, decorated with majolica tiles and the Gesù Nuovo church, a noteworthy baroque masterwork, where Giuseppe Moscati chapel has become one of the most modern places of worship.
